CENIE and the General Foundation of the University of Salamanca present the free online course "Introduction to Ageing for innovators".

The General Foundation of the University of Salamanca offers the free online course 'Introduction to Ageing for Innovators' in collaboration with the National Innovation Centre for Ageing fromt the Newcastle University, through the International Centre on Ageing (www.cenie.eu).

The course, which provides content on population ageing, its impact and opportunities for innovation, is aimed at anyone interested, especially entrepreneurs and companies seeking opportunities for innovation and growth.

This initiative, which shows the growing importance of the Ageing Economy and addresses important aspects related to the opportunities of an ageing society while increasing its longevity, is part of the INTERREG V-A Programme, Spain-Portugal, POCTEP, 2014-2020, of the Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Between 2015 and 2030 the number of people in the world aged 60 or over is expected to grow by 56%, from 901 million to 1.4 billion, and by 2050 to reach 2 billion. In addition, we must bear in mind that "we have gone from wanting to live as long as possible, to living as long as possible in good health, and the young elderly are asking to live as long as possible in order to continue their activities," the experts explain.

This demographic transformation will necessarily lead to changes that were previously unknown - both conceptual and procedural - and will place the world's society in front of a panorama, as yet unknown, that calls for new responses - including new open and hopeful visions - that will affect all levels of the community: from the personal to the social, from the political to the economic, from the educational to the cultural...

The Ageing Economy market, also called Silver Economy, according to various studies, already exceeds 120 billion euros and is made up of products and services designed for older people, consumed by people over 60 and more. In Western Europe, this population group is expected to generate more than 60% of consumption in 2030.

The online course 'Introduction to Ageing for Innovators' presents the fundamentals of population ageing and the opportunities it represents. Those who take it will have a better understanding of global ageing trajectories and the biological processes of ageing, as well as the experience of ageing in different contexts.

Knowledge of the impact of an ageing society, the challenges and opportunities for change offered by this phenomenon, are other aspects addressed by this initiative, which also deals with the potential for developing innovative products and services and offers suggestions on how best to market products and services aimed at older people.

To access the course you must register on the CENIE's online training platform. The contents are structured in 4 modules whose contents (videos, readings, tests...) must be done in order. The course requires an approximate dedication of 2 hours; once completed, you can download the certificate of completion the course issued by the CENIE and certified by the Fundación General de la Universidad de Salamanca and the National Innovation Centre for Ageing.
